This policy explains what BORD collects, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how long we keep it. We have tried to write it plainly rather than defensively. If anything here is unclear, email ry@bordsocial.app and ask.
BORD is operated by Bord Friends, LLC, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. BORD is available in the United States only, and to adults aged 18 and over.

BORD is built around channels defined by who people are, so at signup we ask for information that privacy law treats as a special category:
We ask for your explicit consent before collecting any of it, and we record when you gave that consent. It is used for one purpose: deciding which channels you join and which filters other users can find you through. It is never sold, and it is never shared with advertisers.
Because your profile is visible to other signed-in users, information in this category that appears on your profile is visible to them too. If you would rather not share something, leave it blank.
Your profile photo, stories, wall posts, shouts, and the messages you send in channels, topics and direct messages.
If you turn on contact syncing, BORD reads your address book to find which of your contacts already use the app. Two things are true about how this works, and both are deliberate:
We keep those scrambled values so that if one of your contacts joins BORD months later, we can tell you. They are deleted with your account. Contact syncing is entirely optional and the app works without it.
We do not run analytics software in BORD, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
BORD sends you text messages for one reason only: to confirm your phone number. You get a code when you create an account, when you sign in, and when you reset your password — each one because you asked for it, by entering your number in the app and tapping to request it. We never send marketing or promotional texts, and there is no mailing list to join.
Message frequency varies and depends entirely on how often you sign in or reset your password. In normal use that is a handful of messages a year. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them, or HELP for help.
Your mobile number is never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We pass it to Twilio, the company that delivers the text on our behalf, and to nobody else. Stopping messages means you will not be able to verify a new sign-in, so you would need to contact us to get back into your account.
BORD shows ads from Google's advertising network. To serve them, Google receives your device's advertising identifier and general information about the ad request. Google's handling of that data is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
BORD is an adults-only service, so every ad request comes from an adult account and to ad content appropriate for that audience.
Subscribing to BORD Premium removes ads from your experience.
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the companies that make the app work:

We will also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect someone from harm. Specifically, we report suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as United States law requires of us. See our Child Safety Standards.
When you delete a message, it disappears for everyone immediately — including you — and is replaced by a "Message deleted" placeholder. We keep our own copy. When you edit a message, we keep the previous version too.
We are telling you this plainly because it is not what "delete" usually implies. The reason is that the person most motivated to delete an abusive message is the person who sent it, and they are usually faster than the person reporting it. If deleting truly erased the message, every report would arrive pointing at nothing. Those retained copies are readable only by us, only for reviewing reports and safety complaints, and every time one is opened it is logged.
Removing a photo hides it from the app immediately — nobody can see it again — but the stored file is not destroyed at that moment, for the same reason as above. What happens to it depends on whether anyone has reported it:
Hidden photos are not visible to anyone in the app during that time, including us, except where a report has been filed and we are reviewing it.
When you delete your account it is hidden from everyone straight away, and permanently erased 30 days later. Signing back in during those 30 days cancels the deletion and restores everything. This window exists so that someone who gets hold of your unlocked phone cannot permanently destroy your account. Full detail is on the account deletion page.
After the 30 days, your personal information is destroyed. Messages you sent in other people's conversations remain, but are disconnected from you and shown as "Deleted".
If we terminate an account for breaking our rules — particularly our child safety rules — we keep a one-way scrambled record of the phone number, with the date and reason, solely to stop that person returning under a new account. It cannot be reversed into a phone number. Accounts deleted by their owners leave no such record.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, including the right to know what we hold and to ask for it to be deleted. Email ry@bordsocial.app and we will respond within 30 days. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.
BORD's minimum age is 18. It is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to sign up. If we learn a user is under 18 we remove the account.
We check this with your app store rather than by asking you:
If you believe someone under 18 is using BORD, report them in the app or email ry@bordsocial.app and we will remove the account.
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Passwords are stored by Google Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us. Phone numbers in our lookup index are stored only as one-way scrambled values, so a copy of that index is not a list of our users' phone numbers. Who may read what is enforced on our servers rather than in the app.
No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise.
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you in the app and update the date at the top. Continuing to use BORD after a change means you accept the updated policy.
